Nr. 54 - WHEEL HORSEPOWER 1975, Jef Claerhout

60 x 20 x40 cm, bronze

The name of this sculpture is unknown, but it could be called “wheel horsepower”. Willingly or unwillingly the artist makes us muse about the transition from a world of carriages and horses to a world of steam machines and coal (see also Cat. Nr. 5)   For engineers, wheel horsepower expresses the amount of power an engine of a vehicle is able to transmit to the wheels that eventually pull the vehicle forward.
