Nr. 24 - INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX I 2019, MAT

Model of a mineshaft tower?

Mineshaft towers were used to lower elevators in deep mines. The problem with such mines was that they were often flooded with ground water. The first piston and cylinder steam engine (the one by Newcomen, 1712)  was in fact used to pump water out of coal mines. Coal (Cat. Nr. 8) was used to run the steam engine to allow for more mining of coal. A positive feed back that led to an acceleration that was the industrial revolution (Cat. Nr. e2).
