The dodo, a kind of a big pigeon that didn’t fly, was first spotted by Dutch sailors on the island of Mauritius in 1598 CE . Not even 100 years later, and the bird became extinct by hunting, introduction of non-native species and habitat destruction. De-extinction genetics might bring the dodo again to life. In the mean time, humans seem to have created bird-like objects (a milk foam maker for cappuccini, in this case …) in a nostalgic attempt to re-present what they destroyed.
